Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Edison, NJ
Got a Question? We’re Here to Help!
Are you unsure how a specific treatment works or how often you should be visiting our dental office for care? Over the years, Signature Smiles at Edison has received many questions on all things dentistry, and we care deeply about keeping our patients informed on the best ways to maintain positive oral health. If you have another question that isn’t listed, please call us!
How often should I be visiting the dentist?
We recommend visiting our dental office once every six months. However, this number may increase if you have current dental concerns that we want to monitor more closely. This includes gum disease, which can change and develop very quickly. We also recommend bringing your child in for an exam once their first tooth erupts or by their first birthday to ensure no problems with their oral development are present.
Can I visit you for a dental emergency?
Yes! Not only are we happy to see you for a dental emergency, but we will do everything possible to see you the same day the emergency occurs. Our highest priority is making you feel comfortable and accommodating by our team, so don’t be afraid to call us and get your dental emergency handled right away.
Can you replace my missing teeth?
Not only can we replace teeth via traditional methods like dental bridges and dentures, but we can even combine these restorations with dental implants to ensure a more solid and long-lasting foundation for your replacement teeth. Furthermore, if you’re tired of your current denture, you’ll find our All-on-4 and All-on-6 implant treatments to be very comprehensive and designed to make replacement teeth last for many decades at a time.
What if I feel nervous about my upcoming appointment?
Our many sedation options help put patients at ease and ready for treatment, no matter how severe their anxiety might be. With nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, IV sedation and even general anesthesia (sleep dentistry), getting comfortable during your visit is easier than ever before. Dr. Shah has the training necessary to ensure safe and effective sedation services.
My tooth hurts. Does it need to be removed?
Dr. Shah and his team want to do everything possible to save teeth, rather than extract them, whenever possible. This can be done through root canal therapy performed with the help of an in-house endodontist. In the event that a tooth does need to be removed, we will take all the steps necessary to make you comfortable and discuss your tooth replacement options moving forward.
What if I’m not happy with how my smile looks?
We understand that having a healthy smile doesn’t necessarily guarantee you are happy with its appearance. That’s why we offer porcelain veneers, Lumineers, tooth-colored restorations, in-office whitening through KOR, and virtual smile design software to help you determine which treatment (or series of treatments) will best meet your cosmetic needs. In some cases, a combination of cosmetic treatments may be the best option when removing imperfections from your smile.
Can I bring my family to the dental office for care?
Absolutely! We would love to have your family come in for all of their oral health needs. Our kind team members are happy to work with patients of all ages and all dental concerns. After all, we include many services and provide the expertise of many dental specialties under one roof, so you can get your dental problems handled. Our team also speaks Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati, so family members who may speak English as a second language (or not at all) can feel more comfortable talking to our team about their oral health.
